"BRAZIL" Hollywood "Love Conquers All" Alternate Ending

Uploaded by: SCODgreenhood
Video Description:
"BRAZIL"
film by Terry Gilliam 1984
based on George Orwell's novel "1984"
written in 1948
Gilliam's version adds his own Monty Python flavor of dark comedy to an already twisted story of a State in a perpetual state of War through techniques of "double-speak" & constant fabrication & alteration of history.
Neocon strategists are not unfamiliar with Orwellian Authoritarianism. In the book "The Long Short War" neocon Christopher Hitchens admits to studying George Orwell's "1984" for tips on how to control the masses. In fact he got his Doctorate Degree by studying "1984".
Terry Gilliam did not like this version of his film's ending, but some prefer it to the bleak realist / nihilist original ending.

When I was young and idealistic, I saw the original ending and hated it (I would have loved this ending)... Now I am older and a bit of a cynic, and I see this alt. ending (and hated it) - but love the original ending...
Amazing how a few years can completely turn you around.

Hitchens entire interpretation of political figures seems to miss every lesson of morality and the need to monitor one's own government. He admits to studying Orwell, and still believes America should be a police state. How can a person study Orwell and not condemn the Bush Regime? Did Hitchens miss the "tips"? I think not. Hitchens by his own accounts supports Orwellian Control Tactics by US, but not THEM. "Double-Think" -Drogo

When i was a young rebel i liked harsh grit realist-nihilist endings, but now that im older & believe in more responisibility as a film maker i feel we should not try to bring people down, but rather lift their spirits. Not fluff all the time, but to have a good ending. Balance is good, I can only take so much shit in life as it is; with experience we know there is not always a "happy ending", yet human spirit should strive for it. Or just be depressed or uncaring. -Drogo

Film, Life, & Massages have alot in common; most people like to have a happy ending. A bad ending can make for a good story, because sometimes we do want to be disturbed; or perhaps need to be shaken from dreams to face our fears in nightmares.

I think the 'bad ending' is best because it serves as a warning. I look at the Monty Python cast, and I am accustomed to their flair to make you laugh at the most sublimely exaggerated mockery of the human condition. But it is so vital to shock us out of the laughing stupor to the harsh realities before us, so they don't overtake us like a creeping tide.
Perhaps the rebels should have been shown having a better chance, but heroes are up against staggering odds. The coming age will need some.

Who do you think Orwell was? '1984' was Orwell's warning. Do you think '1984' it was Orwell's manifesto? Why doesn't Hitchens criticize the Bush presidency? He has. TIP: Drop the template, apply the razor, gain perspective.

A POLICE STATE? ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?
Hitchens HATES totalitarianism! Watch some of his videos on Youtube, PLEASE! Any of them! In 90% of them he denounces totalitarianism!

The best film ever made in my opinion.
I prefer Terry Gilliam's choice for the ending.
A visual masterpiece as well as a great twisting plot with an excellent moral which isn't thrust in your face, or laid out on a plate you have to think a bit, watch it three or four times maybe before you "get it".
