Maxine Sullivan - Skylark

Video Description:
Although this recording is notably more recent than what I normally post, I make an exception because I got a request for this particular Carmichael song, and since this is really an outstanding interpretation by a largely unknown vocalist (she recorded very few jazz records, and is best remembered for rather folklike arrangements). This record was made for Columbia in 1946. At that occasion, Sullivan was accompanied by Ellis Larkins, piano; Everett Barksdale, guitar and Beverly Peer, bass.

Thanks again for your appreciation! As said before, this channel being dedicated to the 20's-30's (with a few extensions up to the 40's before WW II), I had to make a big exception posting such a recent recording. However, I considered this to be of such exceptional beauty it was well worth it. Taking into account the massive number of views, I'm so happy to see that many people hear and appreciate this extraordinary artist.

Glad you made an exception to post Maxine. She had a most interesting career as a jazz singer, doing folk and some blues. Lived and performed in Europe for sometime. She retired for awhile and went into the nursing fiel--then was back touring the jazz festival circuit performing well into her seventies. Thanks for the post!
